Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organization with clubs in over 106 countries and is headquartered in Englewood, Colorado. The mission of Toastmasters is to improve the communication and leadership skills of its members through the practice of public speaking skills in a safe and supportive environment.
Our Toastmasters Club is open to anyone who wants to improve their speaking and presentation skills. You are welcome at any of our meetings as a guest! Please contact us in advance so we can anticipate your arrival. After 3 "guest appearances", we will ask you to join and pay club membership dues. That way you will be able to fully participate in every meeting.
Prepared Speeches — As a member, you'll prepare, rehearse, and then deliver presentations in front of your fellow members.
Speech evaluations — In every club presentation, you will receive helpful and supportive evaluations from your peers.
Impromptu speaking — This is where you practice speaking "off the cuff" for one or two minutes by answering general topics of interest (table topics).
What to Expect at Your First Meeting
Seymour Speakers meetings are high energy, organized and very punctual. The meeting is 1 hour and 20 minutes of structured communication rolled into a lot of fun! There is a prepared agenda created by the Chair person.
You can expect the meeting to be opened by our Sergeant at Arms at 7:30 am (PT) on the dot. The Chair person will then introduce the Timer, Grammarian and Toastmaster. The first half of the meeting includes a toast by our Toastmaster, along with two prepared speeches by our members and two encouraging and effective evaluations.
A 5-minute break to network and meet members.
The second half includes our fun, spontaneous and inspiring impromptu speaking (Table Topics)! We then close out the meeting with reports from our Timer and Grammarian, along with announcements and finally our General Evaluator. Every role in our meeting is evaluated to ensure growth and development for all members. The meeting is adjourned at 8:50 am (PT)!
Get ready to have an extra skip in your step knowing that you have accomplished all of this by 9 am!
